Conscious Café launches on Tuesday September 12th and a Mindfulness for Stress Course Starts Monday September 4th (Read on for more details of each)
I am also leading an inspiring Dance Meditation: Dance of the Heart Monday September 11th at the Hampshire Hog and Pantry in Hammersmith (Details below on this too)
What is Conscious Cafe?
Conscious Café is a new movement started by ground-breaking former publisher Judy Piatkus, (founder of pioneering personal development publishing company, Piatkus). Such has been the success of it, that groups have been popping up all over the country.
The aim is to bring you together with like-minded people on a spiritual path of any kind. Together we will explore and expand personal growth, increase self-awareness and engage in conscious conversation to create deeper heart-felt connections with one another. You can expect to be exploring others’ view points as well as sharing your own. Not only that but if you are in West London or South West London areas, you won’t need to travel far for these conversations.
The intention is to meet monthly. At each Conscious Café evening event, we will get the subject going with a very short presentation, then the gathered community will converse in small groups and the group will reconvene. The idea of Conscious Café is to create active conversation and participation, not simply (to have a) having a one-way communication from an expert speaker (and also to meet and deepen connections with likeminded people).
Other Conscious Café groups around the country have explored topics such as:
Authenticity
Freedom
What is Truth?
Inspiration
Identity
Be the Change You Want to be in the World
What is Consciousness?
And so many othe conscious subjectsr
We will be meeting sometimes in Barnes and sometimes in Hammersmith at the Hampshire Hog and Pantry, and we expect to cover similar subjects as well as other subjects that you might like to discuss.
What will happen at our Conscious Café
We will start the evening with introductions and a led meditation. We explore and discuss our topic for the evening, welcoming all viewpoints. There is then time for socialising.
We will meet once a month on a Tuesday or Thursday at 7 pm. Our first meeting will be Tuesday September 12th where we will discuss:
The Art of Surrender
The art of surrender has been summed up by spiritual teacher Jiddu Krishnamurti in five words: ‘I don’t mind what happens’. Krishnamurti claimed that this alone summed up all his teachings.
This total level of surrender depends on our ability to let go of control, release our personal agendas, desires and attachments and accept the Higher Intelligence that is inherent in every situation. It requires that we have a deep trust in the overall goodness of life and stay attuned to the present moment at all times.
In this evening of conversation we will explore what surrender means to us, reasons it is important and how we can live from that place.
The price is £10 in advance (insert here – or £15 on the door).
Book now at this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=UUP3Q4ZCZZVQJ
(Or £15 on the door).
On September 12th we are at http://thechateaubarnes.co.uk/index.php
We are a black timber framed building: We are the first building on the left as you enter Suffolk Road (from Madrid Road), Barnes, London, SW13 9PH.
There is free parking available after noon and all day at weekends.
Really hoping you can make it, and do share with local like minded friends who might enjoy Conscious Café.
Mindfulness for Stress Course is also coming to The Chateau Barnes
I am delighted that Sally and Rachel, gifted therapists, are offering their NHS approved Mindfulness for Stress Course at the Chateau Barnes. In my experience, Mindfulness is one of the most important and valuable tools to incorporate into your daily life, so I highly recommend this training. Here is what they say:
MINDFULNESS FOR STRESS COURSE
Breathworks – NHS Approved Model
“Between the stimulus and the response there is a space and in the space lies our power and freedom.” Viktor E. Frankl
Do you suffer from stress and the suffering associated with stress?
The Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress Course teaches skills to help improve your quality of your life.
Stressful things happen and often we can’t do very much about them.
Mindfulness is an evidence-based practice, which helps us to deal with stressful situations by coming back to what’s happening right now rather than getting caught up in overwhelm and thoughts surrounding the experience. OK, so you might still be under pressure to get that job done, you may still be stuck in that traffic jam or the weather may be awful – again! But that’s all.
Mindfulness helps us discover that we don’t have to live with all the unhelpful thoughts and feelings that we can experience in reaction to stressful experiences. Mindfulness practice doesn’t get rid of problems – while we’re alive we’ll always have problems – it helps us to change how we perceive them and our relationship with them. It helps us to rediscover choice and find new ways of looking at problems that can transform the way we experience our life’s challenges.
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for anyone experiencing stress associated with work, relationships, loss and other factors outside your control. It is also for those who want to learn strategies to deal with the general complexity and pace of modern life.
What does the course entail?
This is an eight week course, consisting of one session per week, with each session lasting for two and a half hours. In each session we will engage in various activities including meditation, to foster mindfulness as well as learn strategies and approaches to help manage our stress, within a small, supportive and friendly group. There will also be some homework practice each week.
How could you benefit?
Put mindfulness strategies into practice and improve your life!
– Combat stress, anxiety and depression
– Learn the value of acceptance
– Choose how to respond to unwanted experiences
– Improve your sleep, happiness and wellbeing

Rachel Podger
Rachel has been working in the field of healthcare as a hands on therapist for over two decades. Through the medium of Therapeutic Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Reflexology she has built up a busy practice, frequently working alongside the medical profession, treating and supporting a broad spectrum of patients presenting with a wide range of conditions.
Emerging from her wealth of experience as a hands on therapist Rachel became curious about the connection between the body and mind. This curiosity sparked a desire to learn more and led her to complete a Diploma and MA in Transpersonal Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. Rachel has extensive experience covering issues ranging from anxiety, depression, bereavement, IVF and fertility issues to life changes and relationship difficulties. Rachel is particularly interested in supporting women through the menopause and working with menopausal symptoms. |
Throughout her diploma and MA Rachel used the practice of meditation and mindfulness as a means of helping her through the demands of the training. She has continued to develop this practice further and in more depth both personally and by training as a teacher in Mindfulness for Health and Stress.
Dance Meditation: Dance of the Heart ,Monday September 11th at the Hampshire Hog and Pantry in Hammersmith
I have arranged a Special Dance Meditation: Dance of the Heart on Monday September 11th, where you can expect an uplifting blend of free expression dance with some relaxing moving meditation. As there are no steps to learn, it is ideal for everyone who wants to benefit from dance, and believes “they can’t dance”, as well as those who can. Having benefitting from the abundance of love energy present in the month of love, and continued with the theme of love, blended with letting go of that which doesn’t serve us, for this session, the focus will be on raising our vibrations, creating more “feel good”, giving us a natural ability to attract whatever we wish into our lives. Come willing to play too. I love the beautiful venue we use for Dance of the Heart, www.thehampshirehog.com with wonderful energy, wonderful food and drink, and The White Room which we are using is particularly special. Arrive ready from 6.45 ready to start at 7 pm. 227 KING STREET, LONDON, W6 9JT It’s 6 minutes from Hammersmith tube or 2 minutes from Ravenscourt Park. A “Dance of the Heart” enthusiast shares what she most enjoys about it. “I love the freedom to be me, and to move without limitations. It’s so much fun: not only do I find my usual inhibitions are released, but I leave each session uplifted, energised and with my heart opened. I feel happy, relaxed and feel like I am falling in love with everyone! We have some beautiful feedback from previous sessions http://www.meetup.com/londonspirituality/events/225735697/ and http://www.meetup.com/londonspirituality/events/227087531/ session https://www.meetup.com/Flying-Solo-Events/events/231938874/ which you may find helpful to read.
Anything can happen after attending one of these sessions. At a recent session, one lady brought her male platonic friend of 15 years and soon after they embarked on a relationship. How wonderful for them both! Other fans talk about the following benefits • “It is so much fun. I feel so great. I find socialising after a Dance of the Heart session gets taken to a whole new level. It’s amazing!” • “I feel so much more confident, more deeply connected with others and this impacts all my relationships” • “I used to judge myself and others. Now I do this less and less. Life is so much more fun” • “My health has improved so much” • “My stress levels have decreased, I feel so alive. I really feel I have “healed my heart”” • “Karen gently encouraged to expand my comfort zone and I find that so much more is possible now that I do”
If you are ready to fall in love with life including everyone in your world (or even with that special someone) “Dance of the Heart” may be the missing piece in the jigsaw for you. You may know that I have taught on BBC1’s Inside Out series where I showed 3.6 million viewers how Londoner’s can have fun without alcohol and on the BBC’s equivalent in South Korea as part of a documentary on dance as therapy. Do come and give it a go. There are a maximum of 30 places for this session, so book now to ensure one has your name on it. Join me for this special session of Dance of the Heart. Stay on afterwards for drinking, eating and socialising. The price is £10 in advance (please pay in advance at the link below to secure one of these £10 spaces. (I do have 3 assistants’ slots for £5 if you can arrive by 6.30 pm to help check people in. You will still be able to participate in the dance. Here is how to book your £10 place: • Pay via Paypal (see below) https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=DVUUWEU8BWNXN or £15 on the door (if any tickets remain) Do wear layers.
Dance of the Heart is a series of sessions. Whilst each is different, they all open the heart and bring participants uplifting experiences, fun, joy, feelings of love and more! Not only that, but the more you experience these feelings on the inside, the easier it is to attract whatever you wish into your life.
